Music On Your Own Terms 145 - Leon Todd/Ragdoll - Guitars, Gear, & Storytime With Uncle dUg
I discovered this week's guest on Youtube whilst searching for videos of one of the amps I own, really appreciating the content he is putting out, as well as our common love for the band Kings X. Leon Todd is a guitar player, Youtuber, and teacher from Perth, Australia, who tours with his band Ragdoll, teaches clinics at guitar festivals, and has a ton of great information on guitar gear, most notably the Fractal Axe FX. We discuss Leon's history, how he has built his Youtube channel, as well as his band's following around the world, including saving for trips to the US, and taking every opportunity no matter the odds they have faced as a band. Finally Leon talks about the old adage of "success is not what you know, but who you know" from his perspective, including how he met his wife, and how he got to hang out and eat dinner with dUg Pinnick from Kings X!

Music On Your Own Terms 124 - Evgen Tsibulin/Pleximents - Escaping The Maze
Joining me this episode, from Siberia, is Pleximents mastermind, Evgen Tsibulin, a multi-instrumentalist, who used to tour in a death metal band, and whose current day job is as a guitar player for an orchestra. We discover what prompted Evgen to create the Pleximent's album The Maze Within, which is effectively a prog-metal symphony, as well as the meaning behind the track names, lyrics, and concept as a whole. Evgen also talks about his old band Dehydrated, how he got the guitar tones on the albums he recorded with them, and his experience touring with Decapitated.

Music On Your Own Terms 105 - Stranger Than Fiction Theory
This episode I talk to Jonathan McNary, Jonathan Moore, and McCaul Ragland, about their baby, Fiction Theory. We met the two Jonathans back in episode 74 with Gary McGrath, and also in episode 101, which itself was spawned out of this very interview. McCaul shares how he got into music and his perspective on what it means to be an artist, whether that be musical or visual. We also learn how the guys have been writing songs, a little about the recording process and how they share responsibilities in the marketing of the band.

Music On Your Own Terms 078 - Hal Eisenberg - A Runaway, Wanted Dead Or Alive
Please welcome Hal Eisenberg to the podcast! Hal contributed drums to James Dand's Empowerment Songs project, including the track "Hero's Journey" that we heard in episode 76, as well as the track at the end of this interview. Not only is Hal a drummer, but we find out about his amazing work in the New York school system as a social worker, having helped hundreds of thousands of kids find their voice, and reach their full potential in the world. Hal talks about growing up, becoming homeless and falling into drugs and alcohol, then turning his life around to become a major force in the education system. We also hear about his near death experience with COVID, and now his battle with cancer, as well as a special message of encouragement from a well known New Jersey singer. This is an incredible chat, and I was extremely inspired after I talked with Hal, I hope you will experience the same insight and invigoration after listening to Hal speak!Click here for the main show notes page!

Music On Your Own Terms 074 - The McGrath Project - LA Story
This episode I talk to three members of The McGrath Project, namesake Gary McGrath, Jonathan Moore and Jonathan McNary, a Fort Worth based band that is about to release a concept album influenced by albums such as Pink Floyd's The Wall, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Gary discusses moving to LA to learn studio engineering and becoming a session guitar player, touring with some big names from past decades, and returning to his hometown of Fort Worth to form a new version of the McGrath Project and record new music. Music On Your Own Terms 064 - Isbjörg - Pianos, Prog And Hiding Toes
I recently stumbled upon a cover video of a song by the amazing Australian band Toehider. Being floored by the musicianship of the guys playing the song, I had to check their band out, and was immediately hooked on their sound. Isbjörg are a piano driven prog band, based in Aarhus, Denmark, and the more I listen to their music, the more I feel I am going to become a superfan. The guys discuss the history of the band, how they write and talk about some innovative ways in which they have gained fans and won a spot playing a major Danish festival. We also hear about the culture of Denmark's live scene, how they overcame losing pivotal members of the band, and what the future holds once the COVID situation is over.
