Music On Your Own Terms 114 - Steven Schwartz/The Crooked Vines - May The Gumbo Be With You

This time out, I chat with Steven Schwartz, keyboardist, saxophonist, and manager of the New Orleans based band, The Crooked Vines. Steven talks about his start in music, going to Loyola University and remaining in NOLA after graduation, to play in various bands, then go on to form the band in question. We also talk at length about the music industry, the business of being in a band, and Steven's experience with sync licensing, in writing a sound track for a movie. The conversation rounds off nicely as we hear about Steven's philosophies on life, and the experience that prompted his views.

Music On Your Own Terms 111 - Lisa Brigantino - Rock N' Roll Ducks From Minnesota

Joining me for this episode is an original member of Lez Zeppelin, solo artist, owner of Hidden Pond Productions and one half of the musical comedy duo Vickie And Nickie, Lisa Brigantino. Lisa talks about her upbringing in a musical family, where a life outside of music was never even a thought, how she was able to quit her day job to tour the world and play the Download and Bonnaroo festivals, as well as recording with legendary producer Eddie Kramer at Electric Lady Studios. We also hear how Lisa has crafted her own business around her music supervision, licensing and rights clearance agency, which also allows her the freedom to tour and create music as and when she wants to, as well as creating a popular musical comedy act with her sister Lori. Lisa is a wealth of knowledge about the music industry, and this is definitely an episode you'll want to listen with a notebook and pencils at the ready!

Music On Your Own Terms 108 - Something Called Eden James

Joining me in this interview is Australian-born, NYC-based singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur, Eden James. We hear about his first foray into music, learning drum rudiments in the school marching band, then picking up a guitar and starting to write songs as a young teen. We hear about Eden's journey to the UK, and then winning a visa lottery to live in the US, at the suggestion of his then girlfriend. Eden shares a lot of valuable insight about his experience as an indie artist, licensing his songs to a major label and getting a number 1 hit in Greece, as well as hiring A-list session musicians to record his latest album, and setting up his own record label.
