Music On Your Own Terms 147 - Ronda Ray - Guitars, Harleys, & Texas Sized Rock N Roll
In this episode I chat to Ronda Ray, a Dallas/Fort Worth local artist that recorded her first EP in historic Muscle Shoals, and is gearing up to release her latest album early in 2022. Ronda talks about what she has learned from starting at a local open mic night, to becoming a full time gigging musician, with sponsorships, and some great industry relationships. She also talks about some negative experiences that prompted her to become more aware of toxic attitudes, the resources that have helped her in the business side of her career along the way, and finally how to film a DIY music video with a friend who's not afraid to hang out of a moon roof. Stay until the end for an exclusive preview of Ronda's new single, Walking Away, out in a couple of weeks.

Music On Your Own Terms 105 - Stranger Than Fiction Theory
This episode I talk to Jonathan McNary, Jonathan Moore, and McCaul Ragland, about their baby, Fiction Theory. We met the two Jonathans back in episode 74 with Gary McGrath, and also in episode 101, which itself was spawned out of this very interview. McCaul shares how he got into music and his perspective on what it means to be an artist, whether that be musical or visual. We also learn how the guys have been writing songs, a little about the recording process and how they share responsibilities in the marketing of the band.

Music On Your Own Terms 101 - Marketing 101 With J-Mac & J-Mo
Kicking off 2021, we take a deep dive into marketing for artists with my good friends Jonathan McNary and Jonathan Moore, from the McGrath Project, and Fiction Theory. The two Jonathans talk about their background in this subject, how it has impacted their efforts with various musical projects, and what they have learned in the process. Along the way we look at a couple of examples of boosting social media posts, when to pay for advertising and when not to, and also some alternative strategies that don't cost money, but may be a lot more effective.

Helping me celebrate the 2 year anniversary of the first podcast episodes being released are my good friends Adam Ross from Creatures & Chemicals (Episode 11 & Episode 13) and Alan Hill (Episode 10). We begin with Adam Ross, and find out what has happened with Creatures since our last episode when I was in the band, details of the release of the album, and what the future holds for live shows and new music. Rounding out the episode is my brother from another, Alan who gives us an update on his coaching experiences, starting a family, moving to Portugal and a major health event that put him in the hospital for over a month, and required him to basically learn to walk again.

Music On Your Own Terms 074 - The McGrath Project - LA Story
This episode I talk to three members of The McGrath Project, namesake Gary McGrath, Jonathan Moore and Jonathan McNary, a Fort Worth based band that is about to release a concept album influenced by albums such as Pink Floyd's The Wall, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Gary discusses moving to LA to learn studio engineering and becoming a session guitar player, touring with some big names from past decades, and returning to his hometown of Fort Worth to form a new version of the McGrath Project and record new music. We learn from both Jonathan's, about how they got started on their respective instruments, and the amount of dedication that has lead them to pursue a full time career in music.

Music On Your Own Terms 065 - The Mason Adams Project - Hillbilly Hippie Funk
In this impromptu discussion, I talk with The Mason Adams Project, a Dallas based band that fuses a plethora of influences and genres to create a southern tinged, alt rock band with a mandolin....or a hillbilly hippie funk band.....I guess you'll have to listen and make up your own mind! The guys talk about how they got into music, the interesting twists of fate that led them to get together as a band, and how they write the eclectic music that defines them. We also learn that Mason has only played guitar for 5 years, yet has managed to build this project to where it is today, how dedicated of a festival follower he is and also how he infuses music into education as a special education teacher. Sit back, relax, and join me as we head into the MAP jam room!

Music On Your Own Terms 063 - Storyteller - From The Darkness Into The Light
Hailing mostly from the Dallas, Texas area, Storyteller are an eclectic sounding band in terms of where they fit genre-wise, but they are extremely focused on the message they portray both musically and lyrically. As you'll discover in one of the deepest interviews I have done thus far, the emotional connection that comes out of the band is undeniable. Having witnessed first hand the intensity that the band and in particular Justin the vocalist performs with, the art being produced is incredibly authentic. In this interview, we learn what drives the music, what the guys have been up to during the lock down, and how they are managing the band with a member living in a different state.
