Music On Your Own Terms 127 - Brianna Ruelas - The Reality Of TV Talent Shows
This time out I talk to realty show singing coach, Brianna Ruelas! We discover how Brianna started singing at young age, went to college for music, and got through to the top 100 on season 4 of American Idol. She gives us some tips on using TV talent shows as a tool to get your brand in front of the millions of viewers that watch the shows, and changing your mindset about the experience as a marketing tool, rather than a way to "make it". Finally Brianna shares her experiences with burn out, how being in the restaurant industry taught Brianna about entrepreneurship, and how she became a best selling author and coach in the process.

Since the CD Baby DIY Musician conference was cancelled this year due to COVID, I wanted to take a minute, in this, the third installment, of Just The Tip, to ask some of the attendees I met last year, why they went and what they got out of the conference.
This episode features responses from the following artists: Andrew Plan, Latoya Cooper, the Songstress. Ruthie Wilde, TD Benton, Dirty Metal Lefty, Diego Vargas, Anais Azul.

Music On Your Own Terms 070 - Latoya Cooper "The Songstress" - Getting Out Of Your Elephant And Being Ready For Opportunity
Returning to the podcast is my good friend Latoya Cooper, who I met at the CD Baby conference in 2019 and we heard from back in episode 23! We find out what Latoya has been up to with both her music, Music Meets The Boardroom, and her new MMB Podcast. Part of this episode also doubles as an episode for that very podcast, where Latoya interviews me about this podcast, and my work with merch at The Skinny Armadillo. Latoya shares info about her work on an upcoming film soundtrack and the books she'll be releasing, along with some important information about trademarking.

Music On Your Own Terms 066 - Just The Tip 2 - How Should You Use Your Platform?
It's been a while since I released the first "Just The Tip" episode. If you recall, it's where I pose a question to the music community to find out what their perspective is on a particular topic. This time out I decided to find out what former guests thought about using their platform to voice various points of view to possibly influence fans' opinions.
The specific wording of what I asked was this:
We have often heard the opinion of bands such as U2 and Roger Waters, being too vocal about political and social issues, sometimes to the detriment of the music. That being said, in today's climate of social injustice and political upheaval, how important is it to you to use your platform as an artist/business owner/podcaster etc, to influence people's opinion on issues? Are you concerned about losing fans/customers on less important issues, and where do you draw the line in terms of which issues you are willing to risk your business over?
This episode features responses from Elise Besler, Amie Chatterley, Anais Azul, Caleb Coonrod, Scott "Scottocaster" Harnish, and finally my good friend Latoya Cooper, the Songstress.

Music On Your Own Terms 045 - Just The Tip 1 - Musicians & COVID19
This is the first installment of a new feature called "Just The Tip" where I pose a question to the musicians community including past guests, to hear their perspective on a particular subject. Given the current situation with COVID19 I decided to ask the question "What effect has the corona virus had on you as a musician, and what steps and outside of the box thinking have you utilized to make up for lost revenue, and make full use of the downtime that you are currently experiencing? Let me know your thoughts on this episode, and continue the conversation on social media!

Music On Your Own Terms Episode 23 - Latoya Cooper, The Songstress!
After meeting at the CD Baby DIY musician conference in Austin recently and hearing how great her voice is, I just had to get Latoya on the podcast. Not only is her music eclectic stylistically, which is right up my alley, but she just happens to run Music Meets the Boardroom, an organization that provides training for musicians and other creatives, helping them gain skills to manage the business side of their music career. As well as sitting down together to talk about music and business, Latoya graciously shares her struggles with depression, her journey from singing as a child, gaining four (yes 4) degrees including an MBA, feeling unfulfilled in her otherwise successful data analysis career, to now gearing up to pursue music full time and becoming an advocate for legislation for musicians' rights in association with the Recording Academy/Grammys. Phew! This one's a doozie!
