Music On Your Own Terms 089 - Matt Bacon - Bringing Home The Bacon!

Joining me on this episode is PR aficionado Matt Bacon from Dropout Media. Matt talks about his upbringing, his obsessive penchant for music culture and history, and how he launched his career working for bands and labels in the metal scene. He also takes us on a fascinating journey behind the scenes of label deals, working for large European festivals interviewing metal legends, and some tips for those who have aspirations to work in the music business. Matt also talks about his upcoming move to London (which at the time of release has already happened), his mental health, and he also shares an amazing list of books that contributed to his knowledge of marketing.

Music On Your Own Terms 088 - Bella Bromberg - Should, Can, And Will!

For this episode we journey to a sunny autumn morning in New York, and chat with a young singer songwriter named Bella Bromberg, who at the time of the interview is in her second year at Barnard College. Bella talks about her upbringing in California, including her mother making Bella take piano lessons, her dad exposing her to hip hop and R&B music, as well as the urge to start writing songs at a young age. We learn of the contacts Bella has been making in the industry and the inspiration for a lot of her music.

Music On Your Own Terms Episode 23 - Latoya Cooper, The Songstress!

After meeting at the CD Baby DIY musician conference in Austin recently and hearing how great her voice is, I just had to get Latoya on the podcast. Not only is her music eclectic stylistically, which is right up my alley, but she just happens to run Music Meets the Boardroom, an organization that provides training for musicians and other creatives, helping them gain skills to manage the business side of their music career. As well as sitting down together to talk about music and business, Latoya graciously shares her struggles with depression, her journey from singing as a child, gaining four (yes 4) degrees including an MBA, feeling unfulfilled in her otherwise successful data analysis career, to now gearing up to pursue music full time and becoming an advocate for legislation for musicians' rights in association with the Recording Academy/Grammys. Phew! This one's a doozie!
